By
Allan Dumbong

Sabah is beautiful. Sabah is rich in bio-diversity. Sabah is attractive. Sabah's economy could prosper by just promoting the tourism industry. But we face challenges. Our environment is not fully protected. Many people are not aware of the importance to protect and conserve the environment. WORLD BUSINESS THINKERS

MY "GURUS":
THE WORLD TOP 50 BUSINESS THINKERS
By
Allan Dumbong

While I was in a mid of a seminar (seminar on Intellectual Property Rights) this morning, I received a phone call from a friend who has just completed her Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Program from the University of South Australia. She asked me whether I had any idea about one new business idea "blue ocean strategy" and whether I would be interested to give a talk to a group of Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) leaders on the subject matter. I know its a new idea, and quickly I searched in the internet to know more about the subject matter. You know what, besides learning about the "blue ocean strategy", I also came to know a group of thinkers that have been moving the world.
I came accross one website (www.thinkers50.com) by accident this morning. I think today, I made another step towards progress, and from now onwards I think I won't be the same. After going through the brief biographies of the world's top 50 thinkers, I think I have completed another MBA course. Their thoughts are so powerful, and combined together, you'll probably find the best brains in the world.
The purpose of me posting this blog is to invite and encourage my fellow friends, readers of this blog, and particularly my fellow Kadazandusun youngminds to visit the website, read the biographies of the top 50 thinkers, and further follow-up by reading their books, articles, speeches etc. Who knows, one fine day in the near future, we would have our own Kadazandusun on the top 50.
So, here is the list of current Top 50 Thinkers (The number in the bracket indicate their previous rankings):

LUMBA KERBAU

ORGANIZERS SHOULD CONSIDER
"LUMBA KARABAU" DURING KAAMATAN
By
Allan Dumbong

Kaamatan 2006 is just around the corner. As usual, the Kadazandusun Cultural association has been very busy coordinating with the State Government on how best to stage the Kaamatan 2006 and achieve greater height of achievements. It is indeed commendable that KDCA, being the largest cultural organization in Sabah, and arguably the most active and consisten in promoting Sabah as a cultural tourism destination in Malaysia.
However, there ar many things to consider in improving the celebration of the Festival. Whiles we are mindful of the objective of bringing more tourists and foreign money into the State, we should not be blinded with the materialistic objectives. KDCA is also in the business of preserving the traditional culture, reviving the noble long-lost values, traditions, events into the mdern era. Many things are in my mind whenver I mentioned about preservation of cultures.
In this column, I would like to share about "lumba kerabau" or buffalo racing which used to be a popular component of kaamatan in the pasts. My suggestion is simple and straightforwad, "BING BACK THE LUMBA KARABAU TO KAAMATAN". I challenge the organizers of kaamatan throughout the State, which would be mostly District Officers, to revive this popular traditional sport. If you're short of ideas on how to organize it, I am pleased to outline herewith the rules and regulations which could be considered as a guideline.

LUMBA KERBAU
2.1 Rules Of The Lumba Kerbau (Buffalo Race)
(i) Race Track:
The length of the race track is 200 meter. Both sides of the track will be a rope of at least 1” diameter, tightened, and strong enough to block spectators from entering the track. Warning signs and red cloths could be fixed along the rope to warn spectators of the potential dangers associated with the race. The race should be organized in a spacious area, like football field. It’s good if the field is fenced so that the spectators could watch outside the fence and not worry unnecessarily about their safety.
(ii) Number Of Buffalo:
Managing a herd of buffalo is not an easy task. Having a big number of buffalo at one particular time is also not an easy job for farmers. Therefore, in order to optimize whatever number of buffalos, it is advisable that there is no more than five (5) buffalo per race.
(iii) Timing:
Taking the time of each buffalo to reach the finishing line might be a huge task. However, since, there could be a number of races; it is good to take the timing. The winner, obviously, the one with the fastest time, and of course, completes the race with its jockey remains on the back.
(iv) Jockey:
The jockey rides bareback astride the water buffalo's rump, slaps him with a switch and bumps along on his sprinting steed
(v) disqualification:
It is acceptable that the buffalo (together with the jockey) stray away from the race track. Normally it’s quite difficult to steer the buffalo, especially when it doesn’t cooperates. However, the racer will not qualify to get prizes if the buffalo doesn’t come back to track and finish the race.
(vi) Types Of Buffalo:
Any buffalo will do. However, the organizer is prohibited to organize the event in such a way that it’s interpreted as doing cruelty to animal. Therefore, calves, pregnant, sick and wild buffalos are not allowed to enter the contest.
(vii) Prizes:
Anything will do. However, it is recommended that the winners are presented with the followings;
· Cup
· Money
· Incentive to take care of the buffalo
· Certificate
(viii) Race Announcer:
Must be able to create jokes and humor while covering the race. However, he/she must be able to explain clearly the rules and regulations of the race.
(ix) Judges:
The judges decision is final.
(x) Safety:
Safety is paramount in this race. The Organizer must ensure that the buffaloes entered to the race is healthy and has no record of goring people. The Jockey must wear crash helmets and other gears to protect him from getting injured. Race organizer must provide security guards to ensure that spectators do not stand before an approaching buffalo. Underage children who get attracted to this event must be guide3d by parents or adults.
(Xi) Entrance Information:
All contestants have to register with the organizer. It’s good if the Organizer could prepare an entrance form which solicits the particulars of the jockey (name, NRIC, age, address, declaration that he is healthy, fit and familiar about the behavior of a buffalo), name of the buffalo.
WOULDN'T IT BE INTERSTING FOLKS?

DIANE ESTELLE DUMBONG

DIANE ESTELLE DUMBONG:
My Fast-Learning Cute Little Girl
By
Allan Dumbong
My fourth child is Diane Estelle Dumbong. She was born on 3/1/2004 at Chin Maternity Clinic, Kota Kinabalu. Now, she is slightly more than 3 years, able to run around in the neighbourhood. She is, to us, very cute with fair skin, sweet smile, and always attract the attention of others.
We name her "Diane Estelle, which in Latin means " Divine Star". This is the name adopted when she was baptised according to Catholic's rites at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu recently.
She is a fast-learning little girl too. Recently, we sent to a kindergarten, and she managed to adapt well to the environment. She is also taking Abacus metal Arithmatic. Her hobbies include watching "tung-tung-chang", literally refering to the Chinese Lion and Dragon dances.
She is quite firm when demanding things, but would be easily become your friend the moment you give her whatever she wants.
I love her very much, and I would not be able to stand without seeing her for a day. She is sort of an inspiration to our family, and she almost takes the center role in whatever we do. She is very influential, and most of the times dictate whatever we do. She is also very special to us, and by the look of it, she is going to be a source of strength to the family. Wish you grow well, my girl!

RACHEL MARIE DUMBONG

RACHEL MARIE DUMBONG:
MY "HARDWORKING" DAUGHTER
By
Allan Dumbong

My other daughter is Rachel Marie Dumbong. She was born on 1st December 1998, and now she is 7 years old. She is currently studying at SJK (C) St. James, Likas Kota Kinabalu in Primary 2. Before that she was at Chung Hwa Kindergarten for three years.
One thing that I am particulalrly impressed with my girl Rachel is that she loves to go to school. Even before she was qualified to enter kindergarten, she already demanded to be sent to school. And, indeed she adapted very well and fast.
In terms of language, she is quite proficient in Mandarin, English and Malay. She is still struggling with Kadazandusun, though. Although not scoring very high in her term exams, she has been showing impressive improvements and the determination to complete her daily homeworks. She would cry easily if she couldn't grasp well with the lessons and homeworks.
Her daily activity is of course schooling. Besides that she also attend Abacus mental Arithmetic every Saturday, English on Friday, and other subjects on Wednesday and Thursday after school. On Sunday, she would go to Sacred Heart Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu for Sunday School.
Her other hobbies are riding bicycle, drawing & coloring, and ride the amusement rides. I still remember when we went to Genting Resort in February 2005, where my children, including Rachel, would not stop from riding the rides. She is so branve in that sense.
As other parents, I would also like to see my daughter grow well and wisely. It is our prayer that Mother Mary, who inspires us to name her Rachel "Marie",would always by her side, guiding her to the righteousness.

ROOTS & RELATIVES

MY FAMILY ROOTS & RELATIVES

THE FAMILY ROOTS OF
A. Sobindor Dambuayo
B. Gumindol Dombuayo
C. Dimbak Datan
D. Kuntiyi Datan
E. Bokiyang Datan
F. Kudiyong Datan
G. Kumiai Datan
(First Edition)
INTRODUCTION
These research work and compilation are posted here to enable the younger generations who are in are way or another no longer able to recognize their distant relatives. Or even if they know they would only say “Tobpinai Tokou”. It was their parents who told them with this book, it is hoped that they will benefit especially when tracing who their distant relatives are.The younger generations are totally blank on how the structure of the family roots are related. It was unfortunate that the early ancestors could not be traced when the elderly died, there were no records of family roots preserved because of illiteracy reasons.Since our forefathers, many things have happened and our descendents have spread widely. As you will see, our family circle have extended to include White Australian, Indian, Filipino Tagalog, Dayak (Bidayuh). In terms of beliefs, we have in our family members who have faith in Christianity, Islam and perhaps Hindu. Their political affiliations are not certain.I am fully aware that this book is incomplete and many children are left and yet to be accounted. The very reason is that there are some difficulties in tracing their whereabouts. Anyway, all that unaccounted for the time being will be continually pursued.I appeal to all those concerned inside the book to send me their families particulars, i.e. their names including their spouses, children and grandchildren, great grandchildren and their in-laws.The assistance provided by the family members (especially Jinuin Victor, Franco Duing Sumpong, Situl Mintow, Madonna Ripin Mintow) who shared the importance of this project is gratefully acknowledged.Any suggestions, comments or the concerning views on how to improve the compilation are very much appreciated.I would like to dedicate this work to my beloved father, Late Dumbong Dimbak, who have taught me so much about the bitter sweet of life.
