Tesung: Traditional Padi Pounding among the Natives of Borneo

Crushed. This is a traditional tool handled by women not only for rice-grinding but also in courtship. A man would approach the girl he fancied while she was grinding rice. The girl would respond either by continuing to pound normally to indicate mutual interest, or clashing the two sticks to say 'get lost'. Makes life easier for the girls doesn't it?
