Based on my reading of the current political scenario in Malaysia, I PREDICT that the dissolution of Parliament and State Assemblies will be announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on 13/2/2008, soon after chairing the last Cabinet Meeting on that particular Wednesday. The polling might be held on 7/3/2008.
This is the time when democracy is tested again in Malaysia. I observe that it would not be easy for both the ruling party, Barisan Nasional, and the opposition(s). Many questions and issues are being asked by the ordinary folks. It includes the issues of "body snatching", Article 11, corruption, economic policy, declining quality of universities, imbalance development, ethnic marginalization, battered judiciary, sex scandals, "SIL", Malay hegemony etc. The ruling party seems to be fumbling with answers and many times sending conflicting signals to the increasingly politically conscious society. The oppositions are in disarray and , I am afraid, won't be able to even deny the two-third majority of the ruling party.
Hopefully, through this forthcoming General Election, we'll be able to make some corrections on the structural problem of Malaysian politics, and make the country's political framework more matured to face future challenges.
The sole winning formula: Field credible leaders who work for the betterment of all Malaysians!
